I was just nine years old when I first watched the 2005 film
version of 'Pride and Prejudice'. However, I became a true Jane Austen fan six
years later, when I was encouraged to read the novels by a school English
teacher. Immediately, I was caught up in the elegance and eloquence of Miss
Austen's world and words, and since then I have devoted myself to studying all
aspects of the Jane Austen phenomenon, from the film and television
adaptations, to the fan fiction, commentaries, critiques, information books and
biographies, as well as the worldwide online Jane Austen community.
When I was sixteen I began my blog, "Laughing with
Lizzie", and I am thrilled that it is increasingly popular, allowing me to
reach a growing audience, all over the world.
I have come to know and share my ideas with many wonderful people and
‘Janeites’ over the years who share my passion, which has been wonderful.
Every September you will find me in Bath, and in June you
might spot me in Chawton, as I love to participate in the many activities of
the Jane Austen festivals, always in full Regency costume. My love of all things Austen means I am often asked to edit and review new
Austen-related publications. I volunteer at a local National Trust historical
house, and as an amateur pianist, I naturally love to play Regency era piano
pieces and music from the screen adaptations, sometimes entertaining the
visitors or performing recitals to small gatherings.
It has been an honour to become an ambassador for the
wonderful charity, The Jane Austen Literacy Foundation, founded by Jane
Austen’s 5th great niece, Caroline Jane Knight.
I was delighted to be asked and have really enjoyed being involved with
this charity, which harnesses the power of the Jane Austen community worldwide
to raise funds to provide free books and writing materials to communities in
need.
I love to spread the wit and wisdom of Jane Austen to every
corner of the world and hope to encourage people of all ages everywhere to
discover the pleasure to be found in her incredible novels, and in the Jane
Austen community.

Hello from the USA!
ReplyDeleteI first read P&P several years ago when I was 14. It was the first Austen I had read (though I've been a reader all my life) and I was hooked from the first page. :) Have you read her shorter novel Lady Susan? I enjoyed that one.
You read Georgette Heyer!!!!!! My mom introduced me to her a few years ago and I can't get enough of her books! You are the first person I've 'met' on Blogger who reads Heyer.
Your blog is delightful!!
Hello!
DeleteI was hooked from the first page as well! I haven't read Lasy Susan, I need to though. Have you read Sandition, her unfinished work, or her letters?
I do read Georgette Heyer! I love her stories. Any regency romances will please me, and Heyer's are so funny!
Thanks about my blog. I really appreciate the comments, it makes it more worth while :) I hope you enjoy posts :)
I stumbled onto your blog from goodreads...I love your blog because I am a big fan of Pride and Prejudice. Following you now! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you :) I hope you enjoy my posts :) Thanks for commenting :)
DeleteHI!!
ReplyDeleteI love Jane Austen, even though I am just a humble 13 year old! ;) I first came across her when I was in Primary School, and fell in love. Unfortunately, in my school library, they have the shortened versions. :( they are never as good as the original, because they have all the good bits of juicey detail taken out.
But, on the up side, there are some books in the library (sorry cant remember who by! will tell you soon!) that are about Jane Austen. There is one called "Jane Austen stole my boyfriend". I love it!
From,
A music lover!
Hello!
DeleteIt is lovely to come across another Janeite, and one so young! Shortened versions are pointless... It is the detail and character depth which makes the stories so good! :)
Jane Austen stole my boyfriend haha! That sounds true for me! How will any man live up to Mr Darcy!?
Enjoy my posts, past and future! :)
Mrs D :) xxx
Hello Mrs.Darcy, it's Chahrazad from Goodreads :)
ReplyDeleteI've already said that I liked your blog, but I couldn't fight the temptation of posting something!
Keep it up.
Hello! :)
DeleteAww thank you! :) I am glad you enjoy my blog!
Mrs D <3 :)
I stumbled across your blog because you are a fan of KaraLynne Mackrory. She is a fellow author at Meryton Press! I see you normally read Regency novels, but I was wondering if you would consider or be interested in receiving a free copy of my novel Echoes of Pemberley, which is a modern-day continuation of Pride and Prejudice. I am sorry to be writing this here on your comments, but I didn't see a place to contact you directly. If interested, please contact me at writer.chensley@gmail.com. The Heart Does Whisper, the sequel to Echoes of Pemberley, has just released and I am hoping to reach as many readers and fellow Janeties as possible. Thank you and I really enjoyed reading your blog!
ReplyDeleteCynthia
Thanks for your comment Cynthia :) I will email you :)

Hello there,
ReplyDeleteI see you have Louisa May Alcott listed as one of your favourite authors - she is one of mine as well! Have you read all of her books, and do you have any specific favourite? :)
Hello!
DeleteI haven't read them all no - ashamedly so far I have only read The Inheritance which I loved and I need to read more of her work! Which would you recommend next ? :)
Thanks for stopping by!
Hmm my personal favourites are Rose in Bloom - that actually is my all time favourite book by any author - and Jo's Boys. I'd recommend starting off with the Little Women series and going on to the Eight Cousins series. Some of her heroes are very unconventional :D
DeleteOh thank you! I will check those out!

DeleteI love your posts on facebook and have just discovered your blog page. I am quite a bit older than you - 50, but have very similar interests - everything Austen,Victoria, Edwardian....I live in Wyoming - USA but adore everything English. I spent 3 years on Scotland while serving in the Navy when I was young. I traveled to England twice during the course of my posting. My t.v. and DVD viewing is primarily English programs. The U.S. is sadly lacking in any sort of decent entertainment writing. Thank you for your sweet posts, your videos, and your wonderful dresses! I truly enjoy all of it. The 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice is also my favorite. I have watched it more times than I can even count. My email is; lchandler7@outlook.com (Lisa Chandler on facebook)
