Carol Cromlin: A Double Giveaway!

I am very excited to be able to announce a double giveaway today! The author Carol Cromlin is currently celebrating a wonderful achievement, as her newly released book, 'Fitzwlliam Darcy such I was', has been listed on the Kirkus Reviews Best Books of 2013 - what an achievement!

In celebration, she is currently holding a giveaway (which I have just entered myself!) and all you need to do is follow the instructions on the picture - but be quick, as it is only the first 500 entrants! Wouldn't you love to be able to claim having a calling card from Fitzwilliam Darcy?

In addition to this celebratory giveaway, the lovely Carol has provided me with two eBook copies (yes two!) of her book 'Fitzwilliam Darcy such I was' to give away to my lovely readers, just as a thank you! (They will be sent through Amazon for the Kindle.)

"Capturing Jane Austen’s voice, Carol Cromlin colours in the silhouette of the extraordinarily complex Mr. Darcy. Fitzwilliam Darcy is arguably the best known, most charismatic hero Jane Austen ever created but he is also the most unfathomable. Who exactly was Mr. Darcy? What principles guided him? What desires drove him? How did he come to be the character Austen, so vividly, portrayed? Cromlin persuasively answers these questions in her newly released historical novel, Fitzwilliam Darcy, such I was. Weaving a compelling tale of the joys and sorrows of his first three decades, she provides the first comprehensive, biographical sketch, of literature’s most famous leading man. A poignant tale, it will sometimes bring on laughter; sometimes tears."

To enter this giveaway, all you need to do is comment with you favourite quote from Pride and Prejudice and why, and then I will pick my two favourite answers.

Please also leave your email address which I can then pass onto Carol Cromlin if you are one of the lucky winners!

This will be a shorter giveaway than usual, and it will end this Friday, 20th December, and will be announced on Saturday the 21st.

Thank you again to Carol Cromlin and may I offer my congratulations for your wonderful achievement at making the Best Books of 2013.

Good luck!

  1. My favourite quote is from Sense and Sensibility, "the more I know of the world, the more I am convinced that I shall never see a man whom I can really love".

I just think it's an absolutely hilarious quote, and as usual Austen has articulated it perfectly. Whenever my friends and I have "man troubles" we always repeat this quote to each other, and no matter what the particular "man trouble" of the month is, this never fails to put a smile back on our faces. That's exactly why I love Austen!

    1. Thanks for entering! Great quote and explanation, however I did ask for Pride and Prejudice quotes ;) I chose pride and prejudice specifically because this book is about Fitzwilliam Darcy. Do you have a pride and prejudice one?

    2. Of course you did! My apologies, I got over-excited when I saw the word "quote".

I do like the quote "Adieu to disappointment and spleen. What are men to rocks and mountains?" as it works in a similar way to the above. However my FAVOURITE quote from P&P is "I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look, or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun."

I know this isn't one of the most common "favourite quotes" of the book, but I think it sums up wonderfully how love happens, and it is such a romantic notion.

    3. I LOVE that quote. It really is how love happens, without you realising it. It just creeps up on you, as it did Darcy.

  2. Thank you Sophie and Carol for this chance! My favourite quote from "P&P" is Elizabeth's.
"The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense".
I love this quote simply because I agree with what Jane wanted to see. It is so difficult to trust other people and I often discover that the appearances are deceptive. It is quite negative but I love it!

  3. so many quotes, it's difficult to decide so a lesser one would be - 'Angry people are not always wise' because it does reflect me sometimes (okay maybe a lot)

  4. There are many quotes that I like, but my favorite one has to be: “I am determined that only the deepest love will induce me into matrimony. So... I shall end an old maid, and teach your ten children to embroider cushions and play their instruments very ill.” I just feel this reflects my feelings very accurately. Lol

Thank you very much for the giveaway!

    1. Thanks for entering! You have just gone and chosen my favourite quote - it also reflects my view on love and marriage perfectly! It is funny it isn't actually in the book as it does sum up Lizzy's opinion perfectly!

    2. Congratulations! You are a winner! I think this is a brilliant quote you have chosen as it also completely and utterly matches my own opinion on love and matrimony! I have passed your email onto Carol and I hope you hear from her soon!
Enjoy the book and happy Christmas!

  6. Actually, I don't really have a favorite quote because I love a lot of them in P&P! But must choose, so it is "A lady's imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony, in a moment." This makes me laugh and think of Mrs Bennet so much! Mr Darcy understands her very well :)

  7. Thanks Soph and Carol for the chance to enter this competition. :)
I've always loved everything about Pride and Prejudice. The first time I read it I concentrated mostly on the romance as a 14 year old would but with every reading I saw the brilliance of the author, the wit and the dry humor which I couldn't believe I had missed that first time! But my favorite quote will always be this...
“I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun.”
I felt the same way while I was reading the book. I never knew when I fell in love with both Mr. Darcy and the book itself. It was my first English classic and I love it like none other!
Also I had to mention this one.... “My good opinion once lost is lost forever.” I mention this because I have done this many times too. I can relate with what Mr. Darcy says here. He gives people chances (even if he knows he shouldn't) but when he looses his trust/"looses his good opinion" of someone, that's it. With me it is more or less the same. So I really relate to what he is trying to say with this statement.

    1. Thanks for entering! What a wonderful explainaton for the quote! "I never knew when I fell in love with both Mr. Darcy and the book itself." it is exactly the same thing for me! I don't know when I fell for him so completely!
I can relate to the second quote you mentioned as well!

    2. Congratulations! You are a winner! I just loved the reasoning behind your love of the quote 'I cannot fix on the hour...' etc - as you say, I cannot precisely work out when my love for pride and prejudice and Mr Darcy began either! I have passed your email onto Carol and I hope you will be hearing from her soon :)
Enjoy the book and happy Christmas!
